Dorothy Hindman’s Here & Now piece challenges the audience, her musicians, and herself. An acclaimed new music composer and professor at University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, she had to venture into foreign theatrical territory – lighting, video, directing.
“I wanted to get out there and be vulnerable,” she says. “But it’s daunting.” But also thrilling.
Biography
Described as “highly recommended for rockers wishing to get their feet wet in post-20th century classical music,” (ICON), Dorothy Hindman’s unique blend of spectralism with punk/grunge has received over 400 global performances in venues including Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, and the Muziekgebouw. Collaborators include trailblazers Bent Frequency, Splinter Reeds, [Switch~ Ensemble], Fresh Squeezed Opera, Robert Black, Craig Hultgren, and others. Recognition includes the Mellon Foundation, ISCM/New Music Miami, NACUSA, and more. Her music is on innova, Albany, Capstone, EMM and Living Artist labels, and published by Subito, NoteNova, and dorn/Needham. Hindman teaches at the Frost School of Music.
